Twanoh State Park Hike
This morning we traveled a little under an hour north to the Hood Canal to hike at Twanoh State Park. We hiked HERE last year at this time & had such a great time watching the salmon return to spawn that we decided to do it again this year. We were not disappointed! There were quite a few salmon swimming up the creek. We are so lucky to live here in Washington where we can witness the awesomeness of Mother Nature right in our backyards. This is a great little hike, especially this time of year.
I was trying to take a photo of Winston & Gabby photo bombed me. |
In the parking lot waiting for the others to arrive. |
Vicky, Walt, and Marianne and her doggies. |
The trees sure grow big in these parts. |
Salmon in the middle of the picture. They are well camouflaged. |
The group from front to back: Winston, Corey, Jacob, Michelle with Peanut, Susan, Vicky, Ces, Walt, Pam & Marianne. Her doggies must have been hiding. |
Michelle was trying to hide without much success. |
Beautiful Madrona tree. |
Such a cute picture of Jacob & Ces. |
It was foggy for pretty much the whole hike. You can see the sun trying to shine through. |
Lots of spiderwebs. Nature's art. |
That's Corey holding up the sun. |
I got pretty close to this one. He must have sensed me because all of a sudden he splashed & swam away. It scared me half to death! |
A grouping of salmon on the far bank. |
You can see the salmon fin poking out of the water. |
Pam took this photo of me while I was taking a photo of the kids on the bridge. Sneaky girl! |

Duckabush River Trail
This morning Pam, Victoria & I hiked the Duckabush River Trail #803. The forecast was for 50% chance of rain. We must have gotten the right 50% because we were greeted by beautiful blue skies at the trail head. It was a little chilly, but overall great hiking weather. We walked approximately 5 miles in & back, stopping for lunch next to the river. We could see some of the fire damage from last year's fire, but the trail itself was very well maintained with just a couple spots of water & mud. The foliage was gorgeous. Overall, I would rate this as an outstanding hike!
Pam & Victoria at the trail head. There was only one other car in the parking area when we arrived. |
